Teen beaten at Six Flags undergoes skull surgery

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — A 15-year-old boy critically injured at Six Flags America during the first night of its Halloween event, Fright Fest, has undergone surgery on his skull and is in a coma.

The teen was beaten outside the Upper Marlboro park Saturday in brawls that witnesses described as chaotic. Prince George’s County police are investigating what prompted the fights.

Six Flags spokespeople say they’re going to beef up security as a result.

The teen has been in the hospital since being attacked. Authorities say he underwent emergency surgery Tuesday to remove part of his skull because of life-threatening brain swelling. He’s stable but remains in critical condition and in a coma.

The teen’s family says they’re praying for a full recovery with no long-term impacts on his brain function.
