Police officer accused of assault while on duty

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police say an officer who was on duty and in uniform kicked and punched his wife and pointed his service weapon at her and her boyfriend at the boyfriend’s home.

Sgt. Sarah Connolly, a department spokeswoman, said in an email Tuesday that 35-year-old Gualberto Diaz was arrested and charged with assault and firearms offenses. He is being held without bail and has been suspended without pay.

Online court records do no list a lawyer for him.

According to charging documents, on Monday about 9:30 a.m., Diaz broke into the boyfriend’s home, pulled his wife by her hair out of bed and kicked and punched her.

The documents say Diaz pointed his service weapon at his wife and her boyfriend, and the boyfriend jumped through a glass window to escape.
