FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Public health officials say an updated study shows no statistically significant evidence of cancer clusters within 2 miles of Fort Detrick in Frederick.
Frederick County Health Officer Barbara Brookmyer said Wednesday that the new analysis doesn’t change findings reported in October 2011.
The 2011 report was based on Maryland Cancer Registry data from 1992 to 2008. The new study includes registry data through 2012.
Brookmyer says officials of the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health will discuss their findings in detail at a community meeting in Frederick on Monday.
The investigation was triggered by concerns about the Army’s experimental use of Agent Orange and its disposal of other toxins on the installation decades ago.
