Maryland state trooper injured in hit-and-run

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A Maryland state trooper was hurt in a hit-and-run in Prince George’s County.

Maryland State Police say 30-year-old Cpl. Brian Hirsh was searching a car on the side of Interstate 495 in Greenbelt early Tuesday morning when another car hit him. A Prince George’s County Hospital spokesman says Hirsh was treated and released.

Police say the driver of the car that hit Hirsh did not stop but was pulled over shortly after.

The driver, 42-year-old Franklin Hernandez of Hyattsville, was arrested on charges of drunken driving, failure to stop, negligent driving and disobeying Maryland’s so-called move-over law.

It’s unclear if Hernandez has an attorney.

Hirsh is an 11-year veteran of Maryland State Police.
