Maryland company to settle discrimination lawsuit

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A Montgomery County business says it’s settling a lawsuit alleging it has discriminated against black and female job applicants for years.

An attorney who represents Rockville-based ACM Services said Tuesday that the company has reached a deal with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the settlement should be finalized soon. He declined to disclose terms.

The lawsuit was filed Monday in federal court in Maryland against ACM Services, an environmental remediation contractor.

The lawsuit alleged that since at least January 2005, ACM avoided hiring black applicants for field laborer positions, and refused to hire women for such jobs, as well. The commission also accused the company’s management of sexually and racially harassing two Hispanic women who were employees before they were fired.

ACM’s attorney says the company denies wrongdoing.
