Montgomery investigators head to Va. to search property as part of cold case

WASHINGTON – Montgomery County police have traveled to Bedford County, Virginia, to search a property in connection with the disappearance of two girls who went missing from a Wheaton shopping center in 1975, NBC4 reports.

The Virginia property was once owned by the family of Lloyd Lee Welch Jr., who police named as a person of interest in the case of the Lyon sisters earlier this year, according to NBC4.

Investigators traveled to Bedford last week to speak with local police and authorities.

Welch is a convicted sex offender and investigators believe he was at the Wheaton Plaza the day 12-year-old Sheila and 10-year-old Katherine Lyon disappeared.

Welch traveled extensively and investigators believe that cases in other states could provide clues about what happened to Sheila and Katherine.
