Dirt bike driver dies after crashing into sedan

WASHINGTON — A dirt bike driver has died after a crash on Crain Highway in Anne Arundel County Aug. 31, police say.

Calvin Savoy, 19, and a passenger, Charles Sheffield, 19, were on an unregistered dirt bike heading south on Crain Highway at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. Savoy was operating the bike without headlights and neither he nor Sheffield were wearing helmets.

The driver of a Lexus sedan, Vincent Gordon III, 23, was heading north on the highway when he slowed to turn left onto Jackson Avenue NW. He did not see the dirt bike and made the turn, according to an Anne Arundel County police news release.

Savoy, who is not licensed to drive, and Sheffield were ejected from the bike when they ran into the passenger side of Gordon’s sedan.

Savoy was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries on Aug. 31, the release stated. He died on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Sheffield suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Gordon suffered minor non-life- threatening injuries.

Police say the cause of the collision is driver error by Savoy.
