Franchot to address Rural Maryland Council

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Comptroller Peter Franchot is scheduled to give the keynote address at the Rural Maryland Council meeting.

He will speak Wednesday to local officials and business leaders in Annapolis.

Franchot plans to talk about his “Let Summer Be Summer” campaign. He supports delaying the opening of public schools until after Labor Day. He says it would be good for the state’s economy and allow families to spend more time together.

In May, a state task force voted 11 to 4 in favor of requiring the state’s 24 school systems to push their start date into September.

Franchot also is expected to talk about his support for the coal and poultry industries, the role of government in the liquor business and his support for Maryland broadband.
