Six Flags coaster remains shut down

Monday - 8/11/2014, 5:16pm  ET

WASHINGTON - A roller coaster that left 24 riders stranded Sunday will remain closed while Six Flags continues to investigate what caused the ride to stop.

The Prince George's County amusement park said Monday that investigators had not yet determined why the train did not continue through the full ride but stopped at the top of a hill. Twenty-four passengers were stuck on the ride for hours will fire and rescue crews worked to free them.

"The safety of our guests is our top priority and the ride will remain closed until the park performs a thorough investigation," according to a park statement.

Park staff and the ride's manufacturer will be involved in the investigation.
