Man pleads guilty to stealing 2,000 postal carts

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Glen Burnie man has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 2,000 aluminum carts from the U.S. Postal Service and selling them for scrap.

Fifty-seven-year-old Roland Michael Muir entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore. He faces to up to 10 years in prison at sentencing Oct. 28.

According to his plea agreement, Muir and a conspirator drove a box truck owned by Muir’s employer to two U.S. Postal Service bulk mail centers in Capitol Heights.

Authorities say Muir and the conspirator stole the carts, called over-the-road containers, used spray paint to cover the U.S. Postal Service markings, and sold the carts to metal recyclers.

Prosecutors say the two got more than $323,000 for the carts, which the postal service valued at $2.8 million.
