Brown details proposals to help veterans

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown says he would exempt military retirement income from state income taxes for the majority of veterans.

Brown, Maryland’s Democratic nominee for governor and a 30-year Army veteran, spoke at an American Legion Convention in Ocean City on Thursday.

Brown has proposed what he calls a Compact with Maryland Veterans.

It includes creating a program to help veterans find jobs and creating a treatment court for veterans with mental health and addiction-related problems.

Brown also wants to create loans to ease financial hardships that veterans face while waiting for disability claims to be processed.
