Car crashes into Montgomery County restaurant

WASHINGTON — A car rammed through the front window of a restaurant in Montgomery County on Saturday afternoon.

The 2005 Honda Civic crashed into Hunter’s Bar and Grill in Potomac around 1 p.m., according to Montgomery County Police.

There were a total of 6 injuries, police said, one of them serious but not life- threatening.

Police say an 80-year-old woman drove the car; her husband was in the passenger seat. The Civic left a parking lot, hopped the curb and into the outdoor seating area.

“There was a couple sitting just inside the door, one of the ones they took away to the hospital,” says restaurant owner Murray Berman. “They scraped his leg up pretty bad.”

The wreck sounded like an earthquake, Berman says: “A lot of furniture is damaged. The whole patio is destroyed.

I looked, and there was stuff flying in this room,” he continues. “When I got over here, I saw this car sitting in this room.”

They are in the process of cleaning up. Police are investigating if the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

A restaurant employee tells WTOP that Hunter’s will be open for dinner on Saturday.
