Tuesday - 7/8/2014, 4:18pm  ET

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Police says the agency is partnering with Special Olympics Maryland to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to spend time with troopers, including going out on patrol.

The Maryland State Police said Tuesday that the outreach effort is aimed at promoting a greater understanding for employees about children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The program will be called "Champions On Patrol" and allow interested children and adults to tour a Maryland State Police barrack as well as go out on a ride-along.

Anyone interested in the program can contact the Special Olympics Maryland coordinator in the county where they live.
