BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of a man who died after he was beaten by police in Baltimore is suing 11 officers and the city’s police commissioner for wrongful death, assault, excessive force and civil rights violations.
Baltimore attorney Dwight Pettit says he filed a lawsuit Monday on behalf of relatives of Tyrone West, who died in police custody in July. The officers involved in the incident did not face criminal charges.
Pettit says he filed a second excessive force lawsuit Monday on behalf of Abdul Salaam, who says he was hog tied and beaten by police in his driveway last summer, 18 days before West’s death. That lawsuit names the commissioner and three officers as defendants, two of whom are also named in West’s family’s lawsuit.
