Former Md. governor endorses Brown

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Former governor Harry Hughes has endorsed Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s Democratic primary bid for governor, saying Brown’s record shows that he will work to protect the environment.

Hughes served as governor from 1979-1987. He says in a statement, “I’m firmly behind Anthony’s candidacy and he’s a clear best choice for our environment and our middle class.”

Hughes pointed out Brown’s commitment to offshore wind and solar energy and setting energy reduction goals that have reduced demand and consumption.

Brown faces Attorney General Doug Gansler and Del. Heather Mizeur in Maryland’s June 24 primary. Polls have shown him with a significant lead over his rivals.
