Former county exec wants Montgomery County's Dise to resign

Thursday - 5/29/2014, 5:29pm  ET

WASHINGTON -- Repairs to the Silver Spring Transit Center are scheduled to start next week and should be done by the end of 2014.

That's according to a memo from Tim Firestine, Montgomery County's Chief Administrative Officer. Firestine says in the memo to the county council that the latest agreement on repairs will "assure the public that the facility will be safe."

The transit center has been plagued with problems. A recent report found that chunks of concrete could fall from the transit center's ceiling, endangering users.

The memo comes on the same day that former County Executive Doug Duncan called for the county's Director of Government Services, David Dise, to resign. Dise has been the county's point person on the project, and has briefed the the council about the problems and repairs at the transit center.

Duncan is running for county executive against incumbent Ike Leggett in the Democratic primaries coming up next month. Council member Phil Andrews is also a candidate in that race.
