Man convicted of beating another in Bethesda garage

WASHINGTON – A Burtonsville, Md., man is convicted of attempted second degree murder for violently beating another man in a Bethesda garage last spring.

Montgomery County states attorney John McCarthy says he plans to seek the full penalty for 33 year old Nicccolo “Nick” Manzanero after he and his friends beat another man unconscious in April .

“He was unconscious and Mr. Manzanero did not cease. He was literally kicking his head into the concrete,” McCarthy says.

Inside the busy garage, witnesses walking to their cars took cell phone videos of the attack that were used in court. One of them ran to the victim’s aid, risking his own safety.

“He instantly ran to the rescue of this young man and began to chase these individuals away. At some point in time … it looks like they were going to turn on him,” McCarthy says.

Manzanero faces a possible 30 year prison sentence. Given the violent nature of the attack and prior crimes, McCarthy says he’s seeking the full sentence.

The judge has yet to set Manzanero’s sentencing date.
