ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County police say a 22-year-old Naval Academy midshipman has been charged with assault after threatening a cab driver with a butter knife.
Police say the cabbie picked up two men from an Annapolis bar early Sunday, but when they arrived at Bay Head Road the men said they needed to get cash from a nearby residence.
The cabbie told police that one man, Midshipman 2nd Class Gabriel Voumard of Cape May, N.J., returned with a knife and ran aggressively toward him. Police say officers found a butter knife on top of the cab.
Voumard is charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Academy spokesman Cmdr. John Schofield says Voumard was suspended from the school's lacrosse team. He was named first team All-Patriot League on Monday.
