Sunday - 3/16/2014, 8:10pm  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Another winter blast is heading toward the Mid-Atlantic region with rain expected to turn into snow and bringing winds and falling temperatures.

The National Weather Service placed the area under a winter storm warning beginning Sunday evening and extending to Monday afternoon. The warning covers northern Virginia, the Washington area, Annapolis, southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore to the Delaware coast.

The winter storm warning has been extended to Baltimore and central Maryland. Northern and western Maryland are under a winter weather advisory.

On Sunday afternoon, the weather service was predicting accumulations of 4 to 8 inches of snow in the Washington area. The heaviest snow is expected after midnight and through early Monday morning. In Delaware, 6 to 10 inches are possible.

Forecasters say travel will be dangerous.
