ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Sierra Club is fighting Dominion Resources' $3.8 billion proposal to renovate its Calvert County terminal to allow it to ship domestic gas overseas.
The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1lV39w1 ) that the case heard in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals last week focuses on an agreement that the site be used for "receipt by tanker and the receipt or delivery by pipeline." The Sierra Club is appealing a lower court ruling last year.
The Cove Point terminal was built to receive imported natural gas, but Dominion is now proposing exports from the terminal.
Labor and business leaders say that construction would be a financial boon to the state. But environmentalists and residents worry about the effects on the Chesapeake Bay and their communities.
