LINEBORO, Md. (AP) -- Officials say fire has destroyed a 160-year-old church in Carroll County.

The two-alarm blaze at Lazarus Church in Lineboro was reported about 4:10 a.m. Tuesday by neighbors. Authorities say nearly 60 firefighters from Maryland and Pennsylvania battled the fire for two hours before bringing it under control. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $1 million. The Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the cause of the fire.

The church, built in 1853, served as a place of worship for both the United Church of Christ and Lutheran members.

The Rev. Sam Chamelin, the church's pastor, tells The Carroll County Times that he has received calls from several churches offering their buildings for worship.
