Suspect with gun shot, killed by police in Germantown

WASHINGTON – Montgomery County Police shot and killed an armed man after officials say he failed to comply with orders in Germantown Monday night.

Montgomery County Police say a man called 911 at about 9:15 p.m. and said he shot two people at his residence in the 19000 block of Red Robin Terrace in Germantown.

By the time police arrived, the man had left the home and there was no evidence that he shot two people, according to a Montgomery County Police news release.

Perimeters and a tactical response were initiated to find the suspect, who was located about a half mile from the residence at Great Seneca Highway and Grotto Lane.

“The suspect was armed with a long gun. He refused the officers commands and was subsequently shot and killed by police,” said Montgomery County Police Captain Jim Daly.

The area surrounding the scene will remain closed for several hours as police investigate. There are no other injuries or suspects.

No names or motives are yet available.

As is standard procedure, the officer who shot the man has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773- 5070.
