OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- A consultant is suggesting that three elementary schools in Garrett County be closed to cut costs.
The Cumberland Times-News (http://bit.ly/HVEubj ) reported Wednesday on a school consolidation study done by Facility Engineering Associates of Fairfax, Va.
A company representative says closing three of the county's eight elementary schools is the most extreme option for reducing costs. But he says even that option wouldn't be enough to close a $2.2 million budget gap.
An architect says some of the remaining elementary schools would have to be modified to handle more students.
