CRISFIELD, Md. (AP) -- Crisfield Police say the town's former police chief has been arrested on theft and firearms charges.

Fifty-eight-year-old Norman Swift III was arrested late Sunday near an auto body shop. Officers say a truck at the shop had been broken into and that stolen items were found in Swift's vehicle. Police also say a revolver and rifle were found in Swift's truck.

Swift is held on a $25,000 bond.

Swift resigned as mayor of the police department in 1990 and served a year in jail on theft offenses then.
