HAMPSTEAD, Md. (AP) -- A Hampstead woman has been charged with murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, who police say died of a drug overdose.
State police say 46-year-old Paula Shipley was arrested on Friday following her indictment Thursday by a Carroll County grand jury on charges including second-degree murder.
Four-year-old Cassandra Shipley died on March 21 after she was found in cardiac arrest at the home in Westminster where she was living with her parents. Police and prosecutors have not specified how the drugs entered the girl's system. But authorities say Cassandra received "a lethal dose of various narcotic drugs" and also had taken over-the-counter drugs.
The state's attorney's office says Shipley has yet to retain a defense attorney. A bail review is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
