CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. (AP) -- Authorities in St. Mary's County say two motorcyclists were injured in a crash with a horse-drawn buggy on a road in Charlotte Hall.

The county sheriff's office says a buggy trying to turn left from the shoulder of state Route 6 on Thursday pulled into the path of two motorcycles.

The sheriff's office says 52-year-old Donald Fridell's motorcycle hit the horse and he was thrown into a ditch and 81-year-old Lawrence Jones was thrown onto the road.

Fridell was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital with life-threatening injuries and Jones was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening. The buggy operator complained of hand pain, but refused treatment.

The sheriff's office says there's no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
