CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Allegany County prosecutors say a North Branch Correctional Institution inmate has been sentenced to an additional 30 years in prison in the death of a fellow inmate.

The Cumberland Times-News reports that Anthony Monroe was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Michael Armstead and sentenced Thursday. The 30-year sentence is to be served consecutive to any other sentence.

Prosecutors say 33-year-old Monroe attacked 53-year-old Armstead in November 2012 while walking to the dining hall at the prison facility. Armstead never regained consciousness and died as a result of his injuries at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore in January.
