Equity firm plans Prince George’s County power plant

Dallas-based Panda Power Funds plans an 859-megawatt natural gas power plant in Prince George’s County, and says it will create as many as 800 construction jobs.

The proposed plant, near Air Force Road and Brandywine Road, is contingent on funding and regulatory approval.

Panda Power says the plant would generate enough power for more than 850,000 homes in the Maryland and Washington area. It also says it will be one of the cleanest, most efficient natural gas-fueled power plants in the country.

In addition to construction jobs, the plant would have 25 direct employees and 32 indirect jobs to support it, Panda Power said.

No timeline for construction of the plant was disclosed. Panda Power said it would take approximately 30 months to construct.
