Hundreds march against violence in Baltimore

Saturday - 7/6/2013, 6:59pm  ET

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Hundreds of people joined a march against violence in Baltimore.

The rally on Saturday was billed as a "300 Man March," and organizers may have surpassed that number. The 10-mile walk went along North Avenue from West Baltimore to East Baltimore and back again.

City leaders say it's time for the community to take action against violence. Baltimore City Councilman Brandon Scott says North Avenue is known as "the belly of the beast" of the city's violence.

Police have doubled patrols throughout parts of the city after a spike in shootings.

The march comes as two more murders have been reported in the city. This year, 120 people have been killed in Baltimore, compared with 108 at this time last year.
