WASHINGTON - A little bit of winter weather crept into the WTOP listening area early Friday, closing schools or delaying their openings.
"Some isolated pockets got 3, 4 inches of snow," says Brian van de Graaf, ABC7 meteorologist.
Reva in Culpeper County recorded 5 inches of snow, as of 6:15 a.m., according to the National Weather Service's unofficial snow totals.
The wintry mix -- snow, sleet and rain -- started falling early, covering sidewalks, lawns and roads.
Two Virginia school systems, Fauquier and Culpeper, closed, while others opened late.
All of the closings and delays are posted on WTOP's Closings and Delays page.
A winter weather advisory was in effect north and west of D.C. until 10 a.m.
Snow and sleet was expected to turn to freezing rain and then all rain by mid- morning.
It's going to be a "damp, windy, cool day," van de Graaf says.
Look for highs of 40 to 46 with winds of 10 mph to 20 mph.
Flurries or a snow shower are possible overnight, with a low of 24.
Snow has been reported in Loudoun County and other counties to the west of D.C.
Rain inundated Southern Maryland.
Roads and Transit
Callers to the WTOP Traffic Center described the roads as slick early Friday.
No problems had been reported on Metro, Virginia Railway Express or MARC.
