FREDERICK, Md. - A Howard County man has been sentenced in Frederick to 40 years in prison for wounding a man and shooting at a police officer in 2005.

The Frederick News-Post ( http://bit.ly/SXgAOo) reports that 28-year-old Charles Moore Jr. was sentenced Thursday. A Frederick County jury convicted him in September of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and use of a handgun in a violent crime.

It was Moore's third trial for the wounding of Romell Allen and an ensuing a shootout with Frederick Police Sgt. Wayne Trapp in 2005.

Moore's first conviction, in 2006, was overturned because of jury selection problems. His second trial last year ended in a mistrial when the jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict.
