HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The minor league Hagerstown Suns are pitching a cheaper alternative to a downtown stadium plan that got trashed by city voters.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown ( http://bit.ly/VVB7G0) reports that Suns majority owner Bruce Quinn outlined plans on Tuesday for a stadium costing $21 million to $22 million. That's about $15 million less than before. And it would still depend on the state funding about one-third of the cost.

Quinn isn't insisting on a downtown location. But he says it can't be built on the site of 82-year-old Municipal Stadium, the team's current home.

Former Mayor Robert Bruchey was defeated in November after pushing the downtown project.

New Mayor David Gysberts (GUYS'-berts) says he aims to keep the Suns in town.

The Suns are a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
