Student attacked near University of Maryland campus

WASHINGTON — A University of Maryland student had a brush with violence this
weekend and police are looking for the man behind the frightening incident.

The female student was approached from behind and grabbed around her neck. She
says the attacker had a knife and told her she was going with him. But as he
pulled her backwards, she broke free and ran.

This dangerous encounter happened 6 a.m. Sunday, off-campus, along Hartwick Road
at least a half block from U.S. Route 1.

The incident unfolded near the Hartwick Building, a campus facility devoted to
criminology and criminal justice.

Prince George’s County Police are investigating the attack.

Campus police are reminding students that they provide an escort service for
anyone who feels unsafe when walking on or near campus.
