Elderly man killed, left for dead in road

WASHINGTON –Police need help in tracking down the driver who hit and
killed an elderly man in Culpeper County more than three weeks ago and fled
the scene. Virginia State Police are heading up the investigation into the
hit and run death of 72 year-old Robert Lee Walker.

State police believe the elderly victim was killed sometime around 8:30pm on
Thursday, October 16. Virginia State Police Sergeant Connie Spradlin says
Walker’s body was found the next day on the median of Route 3 about a quarter-
mile west of Route 620.

She says they have little to go on right now. “We’re asking for anyone who may
have been in that area or knows anything to give us a call,” says Spradlin.
She’s urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant the detail
may seem, to call state police.

Police fear someone could have seen something but that person believes police
already have that information. That’s why state police are pleading if anyone
has any information to call them. Virginia State Police Culpeper Office (540)

Sergeant Spradlin says Walker probably had some sort of dementia and could
have been trying to get back to his boyhood home. She says in many cases
dealing with dementia that’s what the person is trying to do.
