WASHINGTON — Maryland State Police have released the identity of a teen killed in an early morning crash in Montgomery County on Saturday.
Police identified the victim as 17-year-old Potomac resident Dominik Liam Pettey, who also went by “Dom.”
Police say at about 2 a.m., a 24-year-old woman driving a 2013 Jeep Compass drifted onto the shoulder of the Interstate 495 loop and struck a disabled 2009 Honda Accord with five people inside.
The accident happened in the northbound lanes of the Beltway, just south of Persimmon Tree Road in Bethesda. According to police, the driver of the Compass appeared to be impaired.
When troopers arrived, they discovered that the left rear passenger in the Accord had succumbed to his injuries. Pettey was a student at Gonzaga College High School in the District.
The rest of the passengers, including three other teens and an adult driver and brother of one the passengers, were transported to area hospitals.
The driver of the Jeep has been identified as Margaret Christine Baisley of Rockville, Maryland. The driver of the Honda has been identified as 19-year-old Andrew Frederick May of Potomac, Maryland.
Baisley was also transported to Suburban Hospital due to injuries from the collision. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
Gonzaga College High School posted on its Facebook page to inform the school’s faculty, students and families about the loss of Pettey and updates about fellow students Daniel May, Sean Gilroy, and Patrick “PJ” Johannessen, who were also injured in the crash.
