WASHINGTON — As Virginia’s three U.S. Senate candidates sprint across the state in the final days before the election, each says he is confident in his chance to reach his goal.
Among the few things the candidates agreed on in separate interviews this week: Washington is “broken.” Incumbent Democrat Mark Warner has even run an ad that says he can help fix it by continuing to reach across the aisle.
“I worry in a country where our debt is now over $17 trillion, where we will default back to the stupidity of sequestration, that unless we have lawmakers who’ve got a proven record of being bipartisan, who are willing to take on the big problems like entitlement reform and tax reform, that we’re going to continue with the political gridlock that is going to rob the next generation of opportunities,” Warner told WTOP this week on his way from northern Virginia to Ashland.
