Fleming leads Florida A&M past Howard 31-28

WASHINGTON (AP) — Damien Fleming threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more and Florida A&M held on to beat Howard 31-28 on Saturday.

After Howard’s Tavius Brown took the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, Fleming connected with Zachary Webster with an 8-yard touchdown pass to make even at 7. Fleming threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Casey Glines, and then ran for two 1-yard scores to make it 31-7 midway through the third quarter. Fleming finished with 164 yards passing without an interception, and ran for 38.

Greg McGhee had touchdown passes of 17, 1 and 29 to pull Howard within 31-28 with 2:25 to play. McGhee was 22 of 31 for 258 yards and one interception, and ran for 141 yards to lead the Bison (1-7, 0-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Chase Varnadore kicked a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter for Florida A&M (2-5, 2-1).
