Video captures violent arrest, man sues police

WASHINGTON — A Baltimore man is suing a Baltimore City police officer, claiming he was punched repeatedly during a June arrest.

The man, 32-year-old Kollin Truss, reportedly got into an argument with officer Vincent Cosom before entering a liquor store, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Truss filed a complaint in Baltimore Circuit Court.

In a police report of the incident, the officer claims Truss cursed at him and said, “I’ll see you when I get outside,” the Baltimore Sun reports.

Cosom’s written account says when he approached the suspect, Truss adopted a fighting stance and clenched his fist, according to the Baltimore Sun.

However, surveillance video, provided by Truss’ lawyers, shows a woman had separated the pair, and Truss was walking with his hands down when the officer ran up and started punching him in the face while another officer held Truss’ right arm.

Truss was initially charged with assault, but prosecutors dropped the charges after seeing the video.

The Sun reports the officer remains on active duty.

Truss’ lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages.
