CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A developer of a luxury train service between The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia and the nation’s capital says the project is still in the works despite the planned auction of rail cars this week.
Greenbrier Express president and CEO Ross Rowland says nine rail cars will be sold. The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/1AO22CM) reports the auction is scheduled for Thursday in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where restoration of the cars began in 2011 before the project was delayed by federal regulatory issues.
Rowland says the plan remains to operate the train initially with four cars and carry passengers between Washington, D.C., and The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs.
Resort owner Jim Justice had hoped the train would help boost The Greenbrier’s occupancy rates and bring back the glamour of rail travel.
