Secretariat’s birthplace to host mustang event

DOSWELL, Va. (AP) — The birthplace of Triple Crown great Secretariat will welcome a wild horse training competition next spring.

The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1qUQGut) reports The Meadow Event Park in Doswell will host an Extreme Mustang Makeover. It will be held in conjunction with the new Virginia Horse Festival from March 27 to 29.

The competition will offer a youth and an adult division. Trainers have until Oct. 10 to register.

The mustangs will compete in conditioning, obstacle courses and freestyle routines. At the end of the event, the horses trained by adults will be auctioned and adopted.

The Virginia Horse Festival, formerly known as the Equine Extravaganza, will feature a trade show and a parade of horse breeds.
