6 Accomack inmates charged in attack at jail

ACCOMAC, Va. (AP) — Six inmates face charges stemming from an attack on another prisoner at the Accomack County Jail.

Police tell media outlets that 36-year-old Bonfilio Velazquez was assaulted in his cell on Labor Day. Velazquez is being held at the jail on charges stemming from a wreck on the Eastern Shore that killed three people.

Velazquez’s alleged attackers have been charged with malicious wounding by mob.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office identified the inmates as 38-year-old William Nelson, 25-year-old Rynell Omar Crippen, 39-year-old Dalbert Nedab Jr., 20-year-old Lamonty Demetris Johnson, 24-year-old Rhyheem Rashawn Ridley and 42-year-old Christopher Antonio Smith.

Sheriff Todd Godwin says the investigation is continuing.
