WASHINGTON (AP) — The Atlantic 10 men’s basketball tournament is coming to the nation’s capital in 2018, a person close to the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the conference had not made the announcement public.

The league announced that it will have a “major men’s basketball championship announcement” on Thursday.

The person said the venue for the 2018 event will be the Verizon Center, which will host the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in 2016 and the Big Ten tournament in 2017.

D.C. will fill in the second year of a two-year gap when the A-10 tournament is away from the Barclays Center in New York. The event is scheduled to be at the Barclays through 2016 and again from 2019-2021.

A venue for the 2017 tournament has not been announced.

The D.C. metro area is home to two Atlantic 10 schools: George Washington and George Mason.
