2 hurt in separate mishaps on Va.’s Eastern Shore

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (AP) — Two people have been injured in separate incidents during the start of the holiday weekend on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

The Eastern Shore News (http://delmarvane.ws/1pdlHW8 ) reports the injuries occurred Friday afternoon at Assateague Island National Seashore.

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge wildlife officer Bryan Richardson says a man broke his leg when a wave knocked him down while he was surf fishing.

Richardson says a half-hour later, a 12-year-old boy jumped out of a moving vehicle and suffered a concussion. The youth was with his parents in a minivan with the door open around the refuge’s wildlife loop.

Richardson says the boy briefly lost consciousness.

He says both the man and the boy were taken for treatment to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
