Montgomery Co. fire results in multiple animal rescue

WASHINGTON –Firefighters are combing through a two-story Cape Cod-style home in Silver Spring this morning after a fire gutted it, leaving a house- ful of pets in peril.

The fire occurred in the early morning hours on Bennion Road near Randolph Road. Fire officials said later Satursday morning that the fire was likely electrical in nature.

Montgomery County Fire Department spokesman Pete Pringer tells WTOP that one person went to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

But along with a family of six, a dog, cat, one rabbit and some turtles were safe, but displaced.

The cause of fire is still under investigation but preliminary assessments estimate that the fire caused some $425,000 worth of damage.
