Attorney: Inmate makes claim to 1994 Va. slaying

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — An attorney for an Iowa prisoner serving a sentence for the 1994 shooting death of a Henrico County antiques dealer says a death-row inmate in Florida has indicated he committed the crime.

Lonnie Ray Wiseman pleaded no contest in July and was sentenced to 23 years in the slaying of Henry W. Weatherford Jr. Wiseman is serving his sentence at a prison in Anamosa, Iowa. The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1lwN9Dv ) reports Wiseman said last month he made the plea in order to return to an inmate job that helps support his family.

Wiseman’s attorney, Christopher Collins, told the newspaper he recently returned from an interview with convicted serial killer Gary Ray Bowles, who provided specific details about the Weatherford case.

A Henrico judge has scheduled a hearing for Oct. 24.
