William and Mary announces $27M stadium renovation

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — The College of William and Mary says it is embarking on a $27 million renovation of 79-year-old Zable Stadium.

Officials said Tuesday that the Williamsburg school already has raised $22 million toward the project. The renovation is scheduled to begin early next year and be completed by the start of the 2016 season.

Media outlets report that the improvements will include a new upper deck, suites and press box on the west side of the 12,259-seat stadium that opened in 1935.

Improvements also will include widening aisles, adding additional restrooms and concession facilities, upgrading the sound system and creating a new entrance and ticket booth.

Zable Stadium is home to William and Mary’s football and track and field teams.
