Bacon milkshakes? Why not, says Five Guys

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is test-marketing a customizable milkshake on its menu at a few locations, including stores in Alexandria, Stafford and Lorton. Bacon is among the 10 “mix-ins” you can add.

Five Guys “hand-spun milkshakes” start with a vanilla-based shake. Customers can then add as many of the 10 ingredients they want, starting with crumbled applewood-smoked bacon.

The list also includes cherries, Oreo cookies, bananas, salted caramel, peanut butter, coffee, chocolate, malted milk and strawberries.

The Five Guys locations at 6210 Quander Road in Alexandria, at the Shoppes of Lorton Valley in Lorton and at Stafford Market Place in Stafford are among two dozen locations testing the milkshakes. Most are in New York and New Jersey.

With a blank vanilla canvas and any combination of 10 ingredients to add, Five Guys continues its reputation for making it personal. According to its website, there are more than 250,000 possible ways to order a Five Guys burger.

Lorton-based Five Guys, founded in 1986, has been rapidly growing over the past two decades. It had just a handful of Washington-area restaurants in the 1990s. Today it has more than 1,000 locations and $1 billion in annual revenue.
