HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Bryce Resort plans to drain Lake Laura in the fall so Lake Laura Dam can be upgraded.
Bryce Resort general manager Rob Schwartz tells The Daily News-Record (http://bit.ly/1rfeCfm ) that the process of draining the lake is expected to take six to eight weeks.
After the lake is drained, the gate at the bottom of the dam’s concrete riser will be replaced. The project also includes removing sediment.
Schwartz says the resort hopes to begin draining the lake in late September to October.
The resort owns the lake and partially owns the dam. The Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District mostly owns the dam and maintains it.
The dam was built in 1971.
