O.C. to discuss ban on weekly rentals of single-family homes

WASHINGTON — Complaints about rowdy parties have Ocean City officials considering a ban on weekly rentals of single-family homes in several neighborhoods.

The change to be discussed at a public hearing of the Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday would ban rentals of single-family homes for periods of less than several months.

The change would affect neighborhoods, including Mallard Island, Caine Woods, Montego Bay and Little Salisbury, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Since January 2013, Ocean City has received 67 complaints from those bayside neighborhoods, including 13 that occurred at rental properties.

The idea has drawn fire from homeowners who rent their homes for thousands per week during the summer season. The targeted area has about 3,845 homes, but only 246 are licensed as rentals.

The change would not affect rentals in condominiums or hotels, which account for the bulk of Ocean City’s rental properties.
