D.C. tattoo artists push back against proposed regulations

WASHINGTON — D.C. tattoo artists and body piercers are joining forces to make sure regulations don’t put them out of business.

Going only by Fatty, the owner of Fatty’s Tattoos and Piercings in Dupont Circle helped organize the local industry by creating the “D.C. Coalition of Professional Body Artists” as a way to more effectively fight against the city’s push to regulate their businesses reports the Washington Examiner.

Last year, the city’s health department tried imposing a 24-hour waiting period for a tattoos that failed after major push back from the tattoo and body piercing industry. Opponents of the 24-hour waiting period say that the waiting would ban walk-ins and end up shuttering many businesses.

In July, the city introduced new regulations. One regulation, says Fatty, would require tattoo artists in the District to use hollow needles. But Fatty says they don’t even exist.
